SCOATES TO AMERICA 

Richard William Scoates 1817 - 1902 with his wife Sophia Teresa Osborn and children went to settle in America in 1853, they arrived in New York on June 17 1853 aboard  the  USS American Eagle.

The family first settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin then at a later date moved on to Redwood Falls, Minnisota, and Crown Point, Indiana.

The descendants of Richard William Scoates and his wife Sophia Teresa Osborn are now spread throughout America with most of them living in Florida and Texas, there are still some Scoates family living in Redwood Falls, Minnesota and El Paso, Illinois.

Samuel Francis Scoates with his wife and children and brother Edwin Thomas Scoates went to America they  sailed from Ramsgate Kent in England sometime in 1852 crossing the Atlantic in in the Sailing vessel `ELISHA` the vessel was owned by Captain Samuel F Scoates a Master Marina.

A daughter Jessie Louise Scoates was born to Samuel F Scoates and Ann Male in 1857 in New York America, A few years later S F Scoates and his family returned to England and resettled in Ramsgate, Kent.

Edwin Thomas Scoates younger brother of Richard William Scoates married a Scottish girl named Katie Campbell,

In 1880  Edwin Thomas Scoates  was a Saloon Keeper in  Suffolk, Boston, Mass.        

Nothing further is known of Edwin Thomas Scoates or his wife Katie.
